Prenatal care

Pregnancy is a special time during which an expectant mother’s body undergoes significant changes. To look after your own health and that of your baby, it’s worth ensuring you receive the best possible medical care.

Find out why it’s worth having your pregnancy care at INVICTA Clinics.

What exactly does ‘managing a pregnancy’ mean?

Put simply, antenatal care involves providing comprehensive medical care for a pregnant woman throughout her pregnancy. It involves regular visits to the gynaecologist, monitoring the health of the mother and her developing baby, carrying out antenatal tests, and providing advice on lifestyle.

As part of regular check-ups, blood tests, blood pressure measurements, urine tests and ultrasound scans of the uterus are carried out, which provide the doctor with key information about the progress of the pregnancy. Based on these results, potential complications can be detected early and appropriate measures taken to ensure the baby’s healthy development without harming the mother.

In addition to standard health monitoring, antenatal care also involves educating the woman about the changes taking place in her body, a healthy diet, physical activity and preparation for childbirth. An equally important aspect is monitoring the woman’s mental health, so as to identify and prevent symptoms of excessive stress or depression at an early stage.

The most important aspects of a healthy pregnancy

Comprehensive care during this period includes regular visits to the gynaecologist, antenatal check-ups and support from a midwife. It is crucial to monitor the pregnant woman’s health, check parameters such as blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and ensure appropriate supplementation and lifestyle education. Another important element is the assessment of the risk of complications, the prevention of depression and preparation for childbirth through the development of an individual care plan. A holistic approach, taking into account both medical and emotional aspects, ensures the patient’s safety and comfort.

Education provided by a midwife and a doctor

During pregnancy, a mother’s body undergoes many changes, and understanding these is crucial to her safety. An important but often overlooked aspect of education is the principles of a healthy diet and appropriate physical activity.

Preparing
for the postnatal period

Towards the end of pregnancy, the doctor or midwife prepares the patient for the birth, discussing matters relating to the body’s recovery after the birth, breastfeeding and follow-up appointments.

Why is proper antenatal care so important?

The ninth month of pregnancy is a time of intense changes in a woman’s body, which directly affect the health and development of the baby. Regular visits to the gynaecologist and check-ups allow for ongoing monitoring of the mother’s and baby’s condition, enabling the early detection of any abnormalities and a swift response.

It is worth remembering that the baby’s wellbeing depends not only on test results, but also on the mother’s own wellbeing – both physical and mental. A well-balanced diet, regular physical activity and effective stress management have a crucial impact on the course of pregnancy. Practical and emotional support helps a woman understand how her health and emotions affect her baby, which almost always results in a more peaceful foetal development.

Taking a proactive approach to pregnancy is the foundation for a child’s healthy development without harming the mother

Key factors for a healthy
pregnancy and a happy birth

Pregnancy is a time when a woman’s body undergoes a series of physical, physiological and hormonal changes. The development of the baby in the womb is a true blessing, but also a source of stress that is difficult to fully manage through willpower alone. Questions arise: Will the baby be healthy? Will the birth be difficult? How can I take care of everything? These are just a few of the questions that arise over the course of these nine months.

Managing a pregnancy involves many important aspects, the most crucial of which is following the recommendations of the Polish Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (PTGiP). According to the guidelines, to ensure the best possible assessment of the baby’s health, it is extremely important to undergo medical examinations and – where possible – non-invasive prenatal tests. It is also worth considering attending antenatal classes, which are a valuable source of information about pregnancy, childbirth, the postnatal period and the first few weeks of caring for a newborn.

  • The Polish Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians has drawn up the current standard of care for pregnant women, which sets out best practice, guidelines and a list of recommended tests and medical appointments. The aim of the guidelines is to ensure a healthy pregnancy, the early detection of health problems in the baby and to safeguard the mother’s wellbeing. At the INVICTA Clinic, all recommended medical procedures, including those considered optional, are included as standard.

  • Tests are a fundamental tool for the early detection of any genetic or developmental abnormalities in the foetus. It is thanks to these tests that the health of the mother and baby can be monitored, ensuring optimal conditions for a healthy pregnancy. In exceptional circumstances, however, where the results do indicate abnormalities in the baby, they enable early medical intervention and the long-term planning of treatment.

  • Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is less common than traditional prenatal testing, but plays a significant role in assessing the health of the baby. Their use enables a detailed analysis of the baby’s karyotype, allowing trisomy to be detected without posing any risk to the pregnancy. Thanks to their high effectiveness and safety, the doctor receives a detailed chromosomal analysis without having to worry about the complications that may arise with more invasive diagnostic procedures.

  • An antenatal class prepares expectant parents for the birth and for looking after their newborn baby, teaching breathing and relaxation techniques that help to reduce stress and pain during labour. The classes also cover the practical skills needed to care for a newborn, such as bathing, nappy changing and first aid. Thanks to the knowledge they gain, expectant mothers almost always cope better with the challenges of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood, gaining greater self-confidence and having more positive experiences.
